birmingham chariman speaks his mind

Birmingham City plc chairman David Sullivan claims the Dwight Yorke race rumpus has been blown out of all proportion.

The Blues supremo feels only a tiny minority of supporters were to blame and he does not believe that racism is rife in English football.

stern john aint too happy with birmingham owner

Stern John had stern words for Birmingham owner David Sullivan following his failure to stand by Dwight Yorke, while Shaka Hislop is hoping the recent racist taunts are just an ignorant minority.

Sullivan's amazing response to Yorke's situation was to state that the Blues striker should have warmed up at the other end of the ground - effectively running away from the racist jibes.

Good job they got them as what i read in the paper they was really out of order.

They will most prob get banned for life from football.

A bit pathetic eh?

A few racist words shouted at a player and no more football. Was it really worth it?

One of the two fans charged with a public order disorder after Dwight Yorke was allegedly racially abused, has been hit with a five-year ban.

Yorke was livid after claiming he was racially abused on his return to former club Blackburn Rovers with Birmingham and the police subsequently charged two people who were present at the game.

Jason Perryman of Chorley pleaded guilty to an offence of racially aggravated disorderly behaviour towards Yorke and has been handed a five-year banning order from all football in England and Wales.

Passing sentence, John Fryer, chairman of the bench, said: "You racially humiliated Dwight Yorke in public by both actions as well as words.

"There is no place in football or anywhere else for racist behaviour."

Perryman has also been fined £1000 and will pay £75 costs for the incident.

A second fan, David Ashcroft, 21, pleaded not guilty to a charge following Sunday's game.
