[Former Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat has emerged as a shock applicant for the vacant manager's post at Blackburn, although the club are said to favour Mark Hughes.

Coventry City manager Peter Reid has denied that he is interested in taking charge at Blackburn Rovers.

The former Sunderland and Manchester City chief has impressed during his short stay a Highfield Road and he has been strongly linked with the Ewood Park vacancy.

Blackburn caretaker manager Tony Parkes admitted Mark Hughes would be welcomed "with open arms" if the Wales manager gets the nod from the board to succeed Graeme Souness.

Rovers are preparing to interview several candidates for the vacant manager's position and Hughes is understood to be the front-runner although Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie is also be in the frame.

The final decision may hang on whether Hughes would be willing to give up his international role.

if wales campaing on the international scene goes pear shaped then i think it could be possible. i would like to see hughes at a club, i dont know if i would like to see him at blackburn though.

Parkes, in temporary charge of Rovers for the sixth time, sees a bright future for the club without Souness.

Mark Hughes re-emerged as the favourite to become manager of Blackburn after his representative invited the club to open negotiations with the Football Association of Wales.

Hughes had appeared to rule himself out of the running by saying he had "no plans" to quit as manager of Wales, but the comments of his agent Dennis Roach put him firmly back at the head of the pack of those vying to succeed Graeme Souness.
