Aston Villa have been charged for making an 'illegal' approach for Southampton striker James Beattie.
Villa tabled two bids believed to be in the region of £6 million for Beattie in August, however their offers were swiftly rejected by the South Coast
side.
Despite The Saints rebuffing the Midlands outfit, Villa boss David O'Leary made clear his belief that Beattie was keen to join the club.
This prompted Southampton to lodge a complaint and now disciplinary action has been launched against Villa.
Villa could face a hefty fine should they be found guilty of attempting to prise Beattie away from the St Mary's Stadium outfit.
