Alan Shearer has hinted that he could be persuaded to extend his glittering career beyond the boundaries of this season. The former England
international proved his worth to Newcastle when netting their opener in the 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday, his first outing since November.
Shearer has maintained that he will bring down the curtain on his stellar career at the end of the season, but this has not stopped Magpies chief
Graeme Souness from suggesting that he will attempt to persuade the striker to reconsider. Souness brought the subject back into the spotlight at the
weekend when suggesting he will consider offering Shearer a role on his coaching team in order to persuade him to extend his playing career into next
term.
After scoring against Saints, Shearer refused to rule out the possibility of playing on - admitting he will speak with Souness later this season.
