Newcastle United: Butt Cracks ! - Euro Ban!

Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt is facing up to the possibility of a three-match European ban for his moment of UEFA Cup madness.

The 29-year-old England international lost his cool with Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin skipper Abas Soan just two minutes after replacing Kieron Dyer in last night's stormy 2-0 victory at St James' Park, grabbing the player by the throat as the game turned ugly.

Portuguese referee Antonio Costa wasted little time in showing Butt the red card and also dismissed Suan for a second bookable offence and now the former Manchester United star will wait to hear his fate, although United are expecting the worst.

Butt will receive an automatic one-match ban for his sending-off but UEFA's disciplinary chiefs have the discretion to increase that to either two or three games depending on their view of the severity of his misdemeanour.

lasting only two minutes lol..yer i think butt does have a firey temper sometimes, but to strangle a player, i never seen it on TV but it doesnt sound good

hope he gets banned for the 3 games as that will annoy souness lol

Is he that good now he has left Man U? To be honest i never rated him that highly so it will be interesting to see how he plays at Newcastle.

If strangling a player is anything to go by i can't see Souness putting up with shyte like that.

UEFA's disciplinary chiefs will meet to decide on his punishment after he was sent off within two minutes of appearing as a substitute in Thursday night's UEFA Cup first round clash with Israeli side Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin.

The former Manchester United star was red-carded by Portuguese referee Antonio Costa after grabbing Sakhnin skipper Abas Suan by the throat as the visitors became increasingly physical at St James' Park.

Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt has been banned for three European games following his Uefa Cup dismissal against Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin.
