hehe..after mentioning this in another post the other day about newcastle being short of defenders, and that i think souness will ideally want 3 at the back hes linked with the former man utd player

Ronny Johnsen has had talks with Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness, skysports.com can reveal.

The Magpies have been seeking a central defender since selling Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid and their wily new boss is ready to take advantage of Johnsen's free agent status by bidding to sign him even though the transfer deadline has passed.

hehe, maybe johnsen will be the first of souness terible signings for newcastle, ahhh. they can get him even though the transfer deedline has passed cos he is free? maybe just a cheap solution for the time being

as long as he doesnt sign a striker along the lines of...grabbi, sukur etc hehe

Hehe yeah...

I guess it isn't too bad as you say he is available on a free. All depends on what sort of money he wanted. I wouldn't pay no more than 7 grand a week to him at his age...

yer, am sure he got more than enough money while he played for man utd, as he as there for a few seasons, i think anything for him now is a bonus, i wonder if he can still cut it at this level?

To be honest on his performances for Villa i would say no.

If he could still play at the top level wouldn't they have kept him?

yer, thats the thing, if he was good enough, am sure they would have kept him. am trying to remember if he had bad injuries which might have put him out there team. but no1 else seems to have been linked with him.

i think there is a huge difference in quality bewteen him and woodgate. i gues they do have bramble and o'brien.

maybe its a case of, you can come in get money, some games and get your fitness back up and when the next transfer window opens we wil turn our attentions else where and try lure a big name defender.

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is close to pulling off a deal to bring experienced defender Ronny Johnsen to St James' Park.

The 35-year-old Norwegian international flew into Tyneside on Monday night and trained with the rest of the squad on Tuesday as the new manager attempted to plug the gap left by Jonathan Woodgate's departure to Real Madrid.
