Hamburg have sacked their coach Klaus Toppmoller and his assistant Werner Melzer after a slump that has left the northern club at the bottom of the
Bundesliga.
Hamburg also announced that Thomas Doll will take the reins of the first team on Monday.
The 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld proved the final straw for the club's board and Toppmoller's fate was confirmed on Sunday.
Club director Bernd Hoffman said in remarks reported by club website www.hsv.de: "We have decided after the Bielefeld game and the overall sporting
situation to immediately release Klaus Toppmoller and his assistant Werner Melzer."
Doll had previously been in charge of the club's amateur team and will be joined by Ralf Zumdick who was part of Toppmoller's team.
