European: Victor Fernandez named new Porto coach

European champions Porto confirmed on Wednesday that Spanish coach Victor Fernandez will take charge of the club for the next two seasons.

Fernandez succeeds Luigi Del Neri, the Italian coach who only succeeded Jose Mourinho in June before he was controversially sacked earlier this month without leading his side in a competitive game.

"Victor Fernandez will coach FC Porto for the next two seasons," read a statement on the club's official website, www.fcporto.pt.

Fernandez will be expected to mastermind a capable defence of the club's Champions League title, as well as to keep the Dragons one step ahead of Benfica and Sporting Lisbon in domestic football.

The itailian manager Del Neri didnt get long, i think its gonna be very difficult to keep Porto as good as they where last season, Jose Marinhuo (sp?) did a great job and worked wonders i thought.

i noticed in the article that they have signed Diego (i think he played for Santos in Brazil, he is supposed to be a cracking player
