Walter Pandiani may not want to be in the West Midlands, but Birmingham City have cause to be glad he is. The Uruguayan took just 12 minutes to open his Blues account in a 2-1 win against Southampton.[/quote
and pennant was supposed to have been good too
Birmingham City have refuted suggestions that new loan signing Walter Pandiani is disappointed to be at the Midlands club.
The striker nicknamed 'The Rifle' had reportedly hoped to join Serie A outfit Fiorentina, but settled for a move to Steve Bruce's Blues.
However, the St Andrews outfit have stated Pandiani's remarks are from an old interview and that nothing could be further from the truth.
Birmingham City are confident there will be no probe conducted into Walter Pandiani's move to St Andrews.
The Uruguay international linked up with Blues on loan from Deportivo La Coruna on the cusp of the transfer deadline last week.
There had been reports the deal was completed after the deadline and this was confirmed by a Premier League spokesman, who admitted the delay was due to a jammed fax machine.
Birmingham have confirmed their desire to sign Uruguayan star Walter Pandiani on a permanent basis, which could signal the departure of Clinton Morrison.
Pandiani - nicknamed The Rifle - is on loan at St Andrews for the rest of the season from Spanish giants Deportivo La Coruna.
He is already a firm fans' favourite after two goals in his first three games and now Blues chairman David Gold insists the club will look to tie up a deal for Pandiani.
Birmingham have opened talks with Deportivo La Coruna about the permanent signing of Walter Pandiani.
The Uruguayan - nicknamed The Rifle - has become an instant fans favourite at St Andrews, since joining The Blues on transfer deadline day.
He has bagged two goals in five starts and that has been enough to convince Steve Bruce that he wants him on a permanent basis.
Walter Pandiani is close to agreeing a permanent move to Birmingham but the fee demanded by Deportivo La Coruna remains a stumbling block, according to his agent Francis Martin. Pandiani has expressed his desire to move to St Andrews after quickly becoming a cult hero with the fans during his loan spell. But Deportivo are looking for a fee in the region of around 4million while Blues believe a 3million figure is more realistic.
Deportivo La Coruna are ready to offload Walter Pandiani for around 4.5 million euros only months after saying that he would only be allowed to leave for nearly treble that amount.
The Galician club have been stunned by the Uruguayan's constant attacks through the media, where he claimed that players turn up for training drunk, if they turn up at all. Birmingham City are in the driving seat to sign Pandiani as he is currently enjoying a loan spell at the Premiership side.
