Southampton forward Marian Pahars is to see a specialist in a bid to finally rid himself of a persistent ankle injury.
The talented Latvian has endured a miserable year with injuries but had looked to have regained full fitness this pre-season.
However, a bad tackle in The Saints' friendly clash against Swindon put the player back on the treatment table.
A recent ultra-sound scan failed to identify the source of the problem but an MRI scan proved more useful in revealing an area of ligament that has
been damaged.
Pahars, who has already had three operations on his ankle, is likely to avoid the surgeon's knife on this occasion as a different course of treatment
has been deemed sufficient.
