By Ant Evans and pic by Tom Casino: If SecondsOut has polled its' readership on who was Fighter of the Year in early September, Diego Corrales would surely have won our fifth annual award. Entering last year a sixth round TKO loser to Joel Casamayor, the hard-hitting Corrales turned boxer to dominate much of the March rematch and pick up the WBO super-featherweight title. Then, in August, Corrales clawed back a points deficit to force highly-rated and unbeaten Acelino Freitas to quit en route to claiming the WBO lightweight title.
"I sure didn't have a bad 2004," laughed the two-division world champion. "I think I showed a lot of what I can do last year and in 2005 I will show everything. This is my year to really establish myself in the world of boxing."
