The English Amateur Boxing Association is set to break with tradition and allow amateur fighters to compete in professional promotions staged by Britain's leading promoter Frank Warren, non-paid fighters appearing, for the first time, on the same bills as pro boxers.
An agreement is close whereby leading amateurs, including Britain's Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan, will be given higher profiles and bigger live audiences than for years. Terrestrial TV coverage is to be provided by the BBC.
