A character like former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall could only exist in boxing. Tales of the 'the Atomic Bull' are both legion and legend. My favourite? The one involving McCall, a hotel lobby, several bottles of tequila, armed police and a Christmas tree.

McCall has been added to Don King's big heavyweight card at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 13. He should find out his opponent this weekend. He is 39 years old but, possessing of a punch and a diamond tough chin, he can yet be a factor nine years removed from his brief, inglorious, reign as WBC champion.

"I'm looking to be impressive in this fight and throw my name back into the hat," McCall told SecondsOut from his Ohio training base. "I've been talking to Don King about fighting any of those guys - Chris Byrd, John Ruiz, Evander Holyfield - and I told him I could beat any of them right now. If there are any pull-outs or injuries for this show, I've told Don I am ready. I don't have a preference, whichever one is in front of me is the one I'll drop."
