Boxing: Vanderpool looks for another title shot

(CP) - Syd Vanderpool will be guest of honour at a Welcome Home Champ party in Waterloo, Ont., on Thursday, even if the super-middleweight contender is hardly in the mood to celebrate.

Vanderpool (35-3) was stopped in the eighth round of his bid for the vacant International Boxing Federation title by American phenom Jeff Lacy last Saturday night in Las Vegas. The party at Philthy McNasty's bar was planned last week as a victory bash, but now will have a more sombre mood, even if the native of nearby Kitchener, Ont. vows to chase another title fight soon.
