Boxing: What next for Amir?

Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan is set to make a decision on his future by the end of the week.

The Amateur Boxing Association, along with Sport England, is offering Khan £70,000 annually for the next four years to persuade him to stay amateur.

But Khan and his team have already held meetings with professional promoters and will carry on discussions with them while negotiations with the ABA are in progress.

BBC Sport looks at some of the advice being offered by members of the boxing fraternity.

No way should he turn pro yet, great propect he his, great fighter he is not (well not yet anyway!). I think he should let his body develop, pick up the gold and turn pro then. The hype will still be there and he will have that extra bit of experiance in the bag.

If he does go pro, Warren will have to manage his fights very well and will he benefit from fighting the bottom rung fighters when he could match-up with the cream of the ameteur ranks?

I think turning him pro this young is a mistake.

He should let himself mature some more and gain some experience.

Here speaks a man of sense and unquestionable knowledge!

Khan should wait awhile he has years ahead of him and he has plaenty of time to turn pro. What pisses me is it's most prob Warren leaning on him to do it so he can line his pockets...

As long as Amir gets his fare share of the $$$ then all should be well.

That's his job! Amir will get paid as well so it's not as if he would be complaining.

Audley Harrison - remember him?

Interest in the former Olympic super-heavyweight champion has dwindled since he began his much-hyped professional career four years ago. So much so that Harrison has more or less admitted he will leave these shores to chase heavyweight success across the Atlantic.

Put simply, a British public persuaded over the years to buy the long line of patsies propped up for the likes of Frank Bruno decided it had had enough. They did not want to tune in to see a succession of mismatches, even under the guise of valuable learning experiences.

Which is precisely why Amir Khan must resist temptation and stay true to his goal of Olympic gold in Beijing in four years' time.

Khan's raucous reception in Manchester last Friday night as a guest of Frank Warren at the Ricky Hatton fight showed the depth of public affection for the 17-year-old.

But whatever the level of love, that same public will quickly turn away if Khan wades through journeyman after journeyman learning the professional game. A better bank balance provides the only positive reason for Khan to give up his amateur dream and turn professional now.

But even that pales into insignificance compared to the rewards - both in finance and fame - which will come when he has an Olympic gold medal hanging around his neck.

Audley Harrison's career is in the #ter because he's fought nobody!!

All the guys he fights are a bunch of washed up nobodies.

He needs to step up and fight some legit contenders if he wants to break through.

This is what i said about Khan, stay amatuer, get the experience and then take the world by storm. He would earn more money as everyone would want to fight him!

Exactly right about Audley, the time is now.

Yeah Audley has to do something on the quick, he is not a newbie no more and can't use the excuse of needing the experience.
