Paul "Hurricane" Briggs, 23-1 (17), became the WBC No.1 light heavyweight contender to world champion Antonio Tarver on Sunday night at the State Sports Centre in Homebush, Sydney with a twelve round points decision over Croatian Stipe Drews, 26-1 (12), on a card promoted by d-Rush Promotions. Unfortunately, the fight deteriorated into one of the dirtiest boxing matches ever seen with Drews being penalised three points by American referee Laurence Cole for three separate flagrant fouls.
