A Manny Pacquiao rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez in September is definitely off the table, it was learned Thursday.

Marquez, according to his manager Bob Arum, is set to fight fellow Mexican Orlando Salido on the undercard of the pay-per-view showdown between Oscar de la Hoya and Bernard Hopkins on September 18 in Las Vegas.

With the Pacquiao-Marquez rematch not happening anytime soon, Pacquiao’s camp is now pursuing its Plan B, which is to fight the winner between Marco Antonio Barrera and Paulie Ayala on Saturday in Carson, Los Angeles.

The double-champion Marquez’s bout against Salido was supposed to be his mandatory defense of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title. But according to www.fightnews.com, Salido is now the No. 4 contender, with Pacquiao installed as No. 3, and the Nos. 1 and 2 spots vacant in the IBF rankings.

The 23-year-old Salido, who has not fought a 12-round bout in his career, has a 20-8-1 win-loss-draw record (13 KOs). He is ranked No. 8 by the World Boxing Organization and No. 10 in the World Boxing Association (WBA). He has strung up nine straight wins against virtual unknowns.
