TSN (The Sports Network), our version of ESPN, just showed "The Thrilla in Manilla" uncut. I haven't seen this bout in almost 30 years. Forgot what real heavyweights were. Ali and Frazier were throwing bombs in the FOURTEENTH round. They were fighting at about 220 pounds. Today this division is much heavier, and less entertaining. After the first 6 rounds these huge men are playing boxings lottery. Tired, they're clutching, hoping to land that one big punch. Damn, that's boring. Is it that they're too big and tire out too easy, or were those fighters in the 70's just so much better? If the former is true, why not have a super heavyweight division, starting at 226 pounds? Not a joke like Butterbean, but a real division, and get some entertainment back in the heavyweight division?

If you ask me honestly Boxing has too many weight divisions and too many champions. A super Heavyweight Division is a bad idea in my opinion. While I agree that the bigger Heavyweights are not as exciting as the smaller 200-220 Pound Heavyweights I dont think adding another division is the answer. The heavyweight division is just lacking in talent that's all.
