Lennox Lewis has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Don King alleging the promoter issued death threats and offered bribes to friends of
Mike Tyson in an attempt to persuade the former world champion to back out of a contracted rematch with the Briton.
Lewis' attorneys filed the suit in New York totalling USD 385million claiming King was involved in a plot to prize Tyson away from both the projected
rematch and his current promoters and get him to fight for him again.
Lewis alleges that King made threats against Tyson's friend and adviser Jeff Wald and conspired with another friend to steer him away from signing
Lewis' contract last month.
Lewis' attorney Judd Burstein said: "What happened was disgraceful. Don King should be hanging his head in shame." The lawsuit claims that Tyson
signed a contract prior to his fight with Lewis last June which stipulated the pair would meet in an immediate rematch.
Tyson subsequently beat Clifford Etienne in 49 seconds and said he needed at least three more fights before meeting Lewis again.
Lewis agreed to give Tyson more time provided he appeared on the undercard of Lewis' next title defence against Kirk Johnson next month.
