BARCELONA, Spain : Spanish journeyman Miguel Angel Martin, of the Saunier Duval team, won the 84th edition of the Tour of Catalunya after the
seventh and final stage won by countryman Isaac Galvez, of the Isles Baleares team.
Martin, a 31-year-old from Madrid, won Wednesday's third stage to move up the standings to second place behind Russian Vladimir Karpets, and then won
the following day's stage to take the overall race lead.
His win is considered a surprise given that, as a sprinter, he won two of the race's three mountains stages. Martin finished ahead of Isles Baleares
climber Karpets, with Euskaltel's Roberto Laiseka finishing third.
