PHOENIX CC's David McCann claimed his sixth successive victory yesterday at Banbridge when he won the Noel Teggart 80 miles Memorial Road Race.
The event is the most prestigious one day race in the province and forms part of the Irish Classic League series.
With 20 miles remaining it seemed as if the Belfast rider had left it too late as he was still in the bunch while a strong breakaway group was two
minutes ahead looking almost certain to stay clear.
However, on the penultimate lap McCann stormed out of the bunch, closed the gap and then attacked again to solo home to victory.
