The annual Memorial Park Criterium Series began Wednesday night, with racers from throughout southeast Texas competing for prizes and bragging
rights as the best "crit" rider around.
The 13-week series, held on the South Picnic Loop in Memorial Park, has been a staple of the Houston cycling scene for 12 years. Races take place each Wednesday, thanks to organizer Hans Schneider.
Schneider has long been passionate about cycling. He's turned his love for the sport into a career. He started a custom bike-building business that bears his name — Hans Schneider Cycles — and has been an ardent supporter of the local cycling community by staging the crit series.
