Wasps centre Stuart Abbott is set to miss England's autumn Tests because of a serious shoulder injury suffered on international duty.
Abbott, who has won seven caps, was hurt when England lost 36-12 to New Zealand in Auckland two months ago.
He flew home early from the summer tour for specialist treatment and subsequent surgery, and he is not expected to play again until December.
South Africa-born Abbott would have been a major contender for an England midfield berth, and his absence will be a blow to coach Sir Clive Woodward,
with South Africa, Australia and Canada all on the November agenda.
