Cricket: Lehmann appointed vice captain

Cricket Australia today confirmed that South Australian batsman Darren Lehmann has been appointed vice-captain of the Australian Test team following Adam Gilchrist’s promotion to captain in place of the injured Ricky Ponting.

Lehmann, who has been in Australia for personal reasons, returns to India today and will rejoin the squad tomorrow morning ahead of its tour match against Mumbai, in Mumbai, beginning Thursday 30 September.

Ponting, meanwhile, will visit leading hand specialist Mr Ian Hargreaves in Sydney on Thursday for a further re-examination of his fractured left thumb.
