Cricket: Aussie conundrum

MICHAEL Kasprowicz will squeeze Brett Lee out of Australia's first Test side against India but the choice of the new No.3 batsman remains a matter of intense debate.

It could be as simple as injured captain Ricky Ponting suggested - Michael Clarke slots in at six and Darren Lehmann, Simon Katich and Damien Martyn all move up one with Martyn coming in at first drop.

But Australia's awareness of the magnitude of a decision which could rupture their entire campaign if they get it wrong has prompted the selectors to discuss four options with stand-in captain Adam Gilchrist before making a decision.
