I think wal-mart is bed for everyone in the long run

DID YOU KNOW THE FOLLOWING FACTS?

Wal Mart wraps itself in the American Flag, yet in December of 1992 Dateline NBC did a TV program which revealed Wal Mart to be one of the largest American importers of clothing from Asian countries like Bangladesh which abuse Child-labor for increased profits!

Wal Mart considers anyone who works 28 hours per week a full time employee.

There are over 250,000 uninsured workers employed by Wal Mart, one of the largest groups WITHOUT HEALTH CARE in the United States.

Wal Mart does not have a pension plan for its workers, yet point to the profit sharing plan as a replacement, however, fewer than 2% of the Wal Mart employees participate in the plan. They simply cannot afford to pay that additional deduction from their meager wages.



Many more problems exist. A review of newspapers and periodicals reveals many unsettling facts about WAL MART,
here are some of the more recent:

The Federal Labor Department revealed that goods produced for Kathy Lee Gifford�s clothes line (which is produced exclusively for WAL MART) were being made by Honduran CHILDREN, working up to 13hours a day for "starvation wages." However, the story goes on; not only were these �Kathy Lee� clothes made under terrible circumstances abroad, they were also being produced in New York City by a company called SEO FASHIONS. This is significant because the subsequent investigation revealed that the workers at SEO were being paid off the books; their wages were below the legal minimum wage, and despite the fact that they were working up to 60 hours per week, they were not being paid overtime.

They made "...short-sleeved blouse, in antique white,with a button at the nape sells at WAL MART for $9.96."

The stories go beyond the borders of the United States. In Canada:

"WAL MART stores in Ontario have been charging provincial sales tax on items - including products for handicapped people - that are supposed to be tax exempt."

This terrible behavior went on for two years and included children�s clothing products for the disabled


WAL MART'S response was "...mistakes can happen." This is despite the fact that WAL MART is supposed to have one of the most sophisticated pricing and inventory systems in the retail industry!!!



Many people are also unaware of another interesting thing happening within the "WAL MART FAMILY."


"A Federal judge in Denver certified a collective action lawsuit April 5 [1996], clearing the way for more than 5,000 Wal Mart pharmacists to bring suit against their employer alleging they were not paid for overtime work."

Continuing; 10 pharmacists in Houston, Texas filed suit on April 3, 1996 in the United States District Court for the District of Southern Texas charging that the Company violated the Fair labor Standards Act;

"...by not paying for overtime and by forcing them to work overtime hours off the clock."



A third case in Trinidad, Colorado, also regarding the overtime issue, filed by a pharmacist has been moved to Federal Court.

That's the way big businesses are! They do everything to maximize profits, even if that means finding loopholes in the laws. This shows that our society and world is a competitive one where big businesses rule the world in the economic landscape.

I've seen a lot of dissing of Wal-Mart lately, for example, people getting mad that they have to close their business because of Wal-Mart.

All people can do is try their best to keep businesses legit to their employees, creating fair relationships between them.

I never see or hear anybody complain about Wal-Mart's low prices, though. Do you?
