Ice Hockey: McCarty to auction Stanley Cup Rings

This story really upsets me.

Calgary Flames winger Darren McCarty, who filed for bankruptcy in April, is auctioning off some of his most cherished possessions.

C. B. Kaye & Associates will be conducting the auction on November 5th in Fraser, Michigan.

Among the items listed for auction were the three Stanley Cup rings McCarty won as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, two replica Staney Cup trophies and various jerseys, photos and other momentos of McCarty's career.

Other items include McCarty's Harley Davidson motorcycle, a Corvette, a Crownline motorboat, a Ski-Doo and nine televisions.

In documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit last April, McCarty listed assets of $1.9 million US and debts of $6.2 million.

This guy is a true victim of the NHL lockout. His wife left him and collects a large percentage of his paycheck, which is less than half of what he used to make. Life has to be tough on this guy these days.

I wish him all of the best. Tragedy that he is forced to sell his priceless posessions.

What BS. I am sorry, 1 lockout year and your wife leaving you does not cause you have over $6 million dollars in debt and only a little over $1 million in assests. That is just horrible money management.

All sports figures should realize that they may actually need to save money just like the rest of us.

Couldnt agree more with you crayon that is just a stupid human being to lose all that money that he earned. And dont think for a minute that it wasn't part of the reason his wife left him. I have been a huge wings fan for over 15 years and ive heard many stories of his heavy drinking and trips to rehab. I think its a case of all the money he had made him go crazy and he couldnt handle it. He lived life at 100 mph till the money ran dry.:bnghd:

Yes they should. Should, indeed. The guy obviously made some mistakes. Personally, I take no satisfaction in that. I feel damn bad for him. He made some mistakes and now he's paying big-time.

A shame.
