Dodgers 6, Giants 0.

We take 2 out of 3 this opening series of the regular season at SBC Park in San Francisco.

8 shutout innings by Jeff Weaver.

A's 5, Orioles 1 yesterday. A's take 2 out of 3 from Baltimore and Sammy Sosa and Miguel Tejada.

Kirk Saarloos and Dan Haren with 2 very good starts the last 2 days. No Hudson and no Mulder and so far no problem.

How about Cleveland 11, White Sox 5 in 11 innings.

Cleveland gets 3 solo shots in the 9th inning to tie and blow it open in extra innings.

And the Mets get off to an 0 and 3 start for the first time since 1964. Poor Mets and rookie Manager Willie Randolph.

Yeah bit surprised with the Mets, i think it was the 1st or 2nd game, they threw the game away when they had it won..

What about St Louis? Pujols has yet to get going and the Phillies are 5-1 so far in todays game.

Yeah Ex-Oakland A Mark Mulder (making his Cardinals' debut) got rocked that game.

The Mets lost again, 3-1 to the Braves. They're 0-4 now.

The Phillies bullpen is killing them right now. They've been ahead late in all four games this season, only for the bullpen to blow three of them for a 1-3 start.

Ichiro is back to hitting the cover off the ball. So far tonight he is 2 for 3 which puts him at .533 in the young season. He swiped another bag tonight too. It was good to see young CF Jeremy Reed get his first hit of the season after starting out 0 for 13. It was clutch too, it was a 2-run double that knocked home Ichiro and Valdez and put the M's up 3-2. Once he gets going he could put up some numbers batting between Ichiro and Adrian Beltre.

It looks like Mark Prior is slated to pitch Tuesday. He got roughed up in the first inning of a AAA game but says he's ready.

Dontrelle Willis pitched a complete game shutout tonight against the Nationals. And the Nat's just took 2 of 3 from the Phils. Those last 2 games against Philly, Washington's Brad Wilkerson hit for the cycle one game and went 4 for 5 the next night.

Anybody miss Bonds?

Hehe, "SBC Park". It used to be "Pac Bell Park" which sounded better to me.

I just heard that the commissioner has proposed new penalties for offenders of the steroid policy.

1st offense - 50 games.

3rd offense - Lifetime ban.

Now we're talking, they're much better than the slaps on the wrist in place now. They need to be severe to show that the league is very serious about keeping them out of baseball and I'm glad to see the commish actively pushing this. They didn't say what a second offense would be, but from the look of the 1st and 3rd, I'd guess it would probably be for one year or one season.

fitting punishments, hopefuly they get approved, and enforced.

these are the penalties that baseball needs to restore it's credibility, it's obvious that the short penalties that exist now just don't work

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig asked players to agree to a 50-game suspension for first-time steroid offenders and a lifetime ban for a third violation under what he called a "three strikes and you are out approach" to doping.

In a letter sent this week to union head Donald Fehr, Selig proposed a 100-game ban for a second offense. He also asked the union to ban amphetamines, to have more frequent random tests and to appoint an independent person to administer the major-league drug-testing program.

"Third offenders should be banned permanently. I recognize the need for progressive discipline, but a third-time offender has no place in the game," Selig wrote to Fehr. "Steroid users cheat the game. After three offenses, they have no place in it."

Under the rules that began this season, a first offense gets a 10-day suspension, with the penalty increasing to 30 days for a second positive test, 60 days for a third and one year for a fourth. For a fifth positive, the penalty is at the commissioner's discretion.

Baseball currently has no penalties for amphetamine use by players on 40-man major-league rosters. Amphetamines are banned for players under minor-league contracts.

A rare, but well-deserved, thumbs up to Bud Selig.

the players association has rejected seligs strengthened drug policy, this is hard for me to understand, one would have to assume that most of the players are clean, wouldn't they want a level playing field???? i have to wonder
