In my opinion, even for a closer of his magnitude, that 25.75 million is way too much. Although it will keep him in St. Louis till 2007 with an option for 2008, he will be getting 7 million this year, 8.75 million for 2006 and 2007, and the option is worth 8 million. I dont know about you, but this seems too much for a 32 year old closer.

Wow, that is alot, especially considering his past medical history. He had a good season last year as did just about the entire Cardinals roster, but that is a huge contract. They have a pretty good young starting staff (M Morris isnt young) so they probably wanted to secure Izzy in the closing role to close their games. They had a little problem with middle relief last year, Steve Kline wasn't very good last year.
