The Mets and outfielder Carlos Beltran have agreed in principle to a seven-year, $119 million deal, ESPN.com reported. A source said that the contract
would include an $11 million signing bonus. The Mets and agent Scott Boras still need to structure the season-by-season salaries and any deferred
payments. Beltran is expected to take a physical on Monday. He split his time between the Royals and Astros in 2004 and hit .267 with 38 homers, 104
RBI, 42 steals, and 121 runs.

The Mets already bolstered their pitching staff by adding Pedro Martinez and signing Beltran would obviously be a huge boost to their offense and
defense. Putting Carlos in the middle of the Mets' lineup helps everyone in their order, and an outfield featuring both Beltran and Mike Cameron will
definitely make the pitching staff smile. That being said, the deal is not yet official, and we'll have more to say once that time comes.
