Baseball: Big Unit saying he is a Yankee?

Randy Johnson is telling some Arizona Diamondbacks' teammates that a deal that will send him to the New York Yankees is done, according to the New York Daily News.

The News, citing unnamed sources, said final trade details are being worked out, and that two scenarios are being considered.
The two trade possibilities include Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez, prospects and cash to Arizona in exchange for Johnson. However, the amount of money New York would send depends on the caliber of the minor leaguers.

In one proposal, the News claims the Yanks would trade Vazquez, Brad Halsey, Abel Gomez and Melky Cabrera (lower-caliber prospects) for Johnson and include about $12 million to make up some of the difference in money owed to Johnson ($16 million next season) and Vazquez ($35.5 million over the next three years).

The News said the other proposal involves the Yankees dealing Vazquez and higher-rated prospects Dioner Navarro and Eric Duncan for Johnson, while throwing in less money - around $5 million - to essentially complete the trade.

Word is that this is a done deal.

The NYY budget must be monstrous with Boston not far behind. Ming does not like this "purchasing" of a championship. Red Sox fans should temper their euphoria over the breaking of the Curse, with the fact that they bought it off. Ming would have liked the Sox to reverse the same the old fashioned way: to earn it.

With all the Bosox belly-aching about the Yankees limitless spending, compared to almost every other team, they are just as guilty.

Maybe when a few more of the weaker franchises start folding up their tents, MLB will try to get serious about profitsharing. Unless one is in a major market city, one's team really doesn't have much of a prayer. The most notable exception to that being unless you have real genius like in Oakland.
