The New York Mets placed right-hander Victor Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list with elbow tendinitis Thursday and called up right-hander Bartolome
Fortunato to take his place.
Zambrano was sent back to New York after having his elbow tighten up in the second inning Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. Test results showed
flexor tendinitis, a problem similar to what Zambrano had before he was traded from Tampa Bay on July 30.
Zambrano won his first two starts for New York, allowing four earned runs over 14 innings, before leaving in the second inning against the Rockies
Tuesday.
Fortunato came to the Mets with Zambrano in a trade that sent minor league pitchers Scott Kazmir and Joselo Diaz to the Devil Rays. Fortunato was 0-0
with a 3.38 ERA in six appearances for Triple-A Norfolk. He was 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA in three games with Tampa Bay this season.
