Baseball: A's retire Jackson's No 9

Reggie Jackson might be best known as the brash slugger who clashed with George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin and forever became "Mr. October" with three World Series home runs at Yankee Stadium.

But Jackson rose to prominence in Oakland and had his biggest success with the Athletics, who will finally retire his No. 9 on Saturday -- 11 years after New York gave him the honor by retiring his No. 44.

Classy move by the A's but you have to wonder why they waited till 17 years after he retired. He said he didnt see eye to eye with one of the A's execs so I assume that was the reason.

Here's Mr October wearing #44 which is the number I always remember him wearing, he also was 44 with the Yankees.

A fitting ribute (finally) for one of the games best ever.

Yea it was a good move by the A's. Sadly i never supported them when he played but it does make you wonder why they took so long even if the exec's had a problem with him.

I got the impression that he was a large part of the holdup with this happening, when he said that he set aside the differences with management.
