Royals could ship Beltran to Phillies
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle columnist Bob Matthews reports a "Interesting baseball trade rumor: Kansas City center fielder Carlos Beltran to
Philadelphia for center fielder Marlon Byrd and top pitching prospect Gavin Floyd. That deal probably would clinch the NL East for the Phillies."
Oliver could land in Colorado
Denver Post
"The Marlins are attempting to trade Darren Oliver after banishing him to the bullpen, and the Rockies have held discussions about the
left-hander."
Yankees may deal for reliever
New York Post columnist Joel Sherman writes that "The Yanks crave Baltimore's B.J. Ryan or Kansas City's Jeremy Affeldt, but don't expect either to be
available. They are more likely to be in on Detroit's Jamie Walker and Los Angeles' Tom Martin. They also have had some internal dialogue about
pursuing Mike Stanton if the Mets fall out of the race because they know he has the stomach to pitch in The Bronx."
Mariners may unload Meche, Garcia
New York Post columnist Joel Sherman writes "The Mariners would move starter Gil Meche, but there is concern around the majors about the health of his
right arm. Besides Freddy Garcia (who almost certainly will be traded in the next six weeks), clubs are asking Seattle about Joel Pineiro, but are
finding him unavailable."
A's could deal Zito
New York Post columnist Joel Sherman states the A's who are "Always looking to manage its payroll, are excited that prospect Joe Blanton may soon
follow Rich Harden into the rotation. That, according to someone familiar with the A's thinking, could motivate the A's to deal one of their big three
starters for a bat (at the deadline or, more likely, in the offseason), and Barry Zito is the likeliest candidate."
