The rich in talent might be getting richer still ...

Free-agent pitcher Greg Maddux will sign with the New York Yankees sometime later this week, according to reports on New York's WABC-TV and in the Bergen Record, a New Jersey newspaper.

Earlier in the day, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman denied any interest in Maddux during a conference call with reporters announcing the megadeal for shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

"We are not involved with Greg Maddux," Cashman said at the time.

I don't even think they need him to win it all, they are already loaded with all-stars. I think if Maddux was to go to the Yankees there will be alot of upset fans. I mean how can one team get ARod, Kevin Brown, Javier Vazquez, Gary Sheffield, Kenny Lofton, and Maddux in the offseason added to an already talented roster, I just think people will react negatively if this goes through.

"Now that the first $185 million team in history has added the best player in baseball, it's safe for all of us to predict that the Yankees will have a better record than the Brewers.Possibly even the Pirates.

But this is our chance to assure you, the American public, that the Yankees still are not guaranteed to win the World Series, with or without Alex Rodriguez. They will be required to play out the season. And so should the other 29 teams.

No denying A-Rod is great and all that. But there is still a lot of stuff that could happen to prevent the Yankees from winning. Really.

Granted, not all of it is especially plausible. But it could happen. So we've been chosen by the Citizens for Competitive Balance to present the A-Rod column everyone but the Steinbrenner family has been waiting for, the ...

10 reasons the Yankees still won't win (maybe) (possibly)

1. They need more All-Stars
2. They need more $100 million men
3. Kevin Brown is a physical wreck
4. Who knows about Jon Lieber and Jose Contreras?
5. The Curse of Don Zimmer
6. The Curse of Janet Jackson
7. They could flunk chemistry
8. Steinbrenner's health worries
9. How do we know A-Rod is cut out for New York?
10. He isn't exactly replacing Fernando Tatis

You'll have to click the link to read his explanation for each reason, too long to post but humurous and worth reading. :smug:

why draw the line? The team is obviously making their team better. Isnt this a sport about competition and to see who can be the best team out there. If we draw the line this means that you have to follow rules and be under restriction. A team is allowed to do any deals that it wants.

it didnt, but it is going to get them close every year. What other team can say that? What other team can say that they can be in the world series every year. Exactly.

LOL!!!

2nd is no good!!!

They spend huge sums of money and it just shows money doesn't buy success, when i say SUCCESS i mean winning the whole thing!

Being a NEARLY team is no good, you want to win the PRIZE!

IF it was a team in England they would be a LAUGHING STOCK,the manager would be sacked and all sorts...2nd is not winning it's a FAILURE!!

Do you think that the team that won the world series will actually be back their next season?

What does it matter? Most proberly they won't win it,but who cares they WON,they havnt spent millions and millions of pounds so if they WON it again it would be more of a achievement than if the Yankees WON!

See the Yankees never WON so they FAILED,if they dont win it this year,WHO would be BLAMED! the players? the manager/coach? the owner?
IF they don't WIN it then what another load of MONEY the owner has WASTED,you know spend umpteen millions for your team NOT TO WIN that is a great achievement...LMAO!!!!!!!!

2nd is NOT WINNING!!!!!!!
