not sure if this goes here but i just saved up a lotta points to get in and i'll be damned if i dont use it.

ok assuming time travel is possible when would be the present? because if someone from the future came to us he would be going to his past our present. so although we think its the present its really not but what is it? einstien said that time is relative to the observer so our own time would be our present and his time would be his. but if we have both presents then time has already happened. and happens again and again and again. also time travel is possible but only forward. if you travel close to the speed of light time will slow down for the person traveling that speed while time remains at the same speed for others not. so you could simply travel somewhere and back and have progressed in time. very quickly of course. because einstien also said speed plus speed through time = speed of light. so since relatively speaking we arent traveling very fast then we must be accelerating through time at a rapid rate. therefore maybe on a differnet planet we would age differently?

the present doesnt exist, life is only a memory, by the time you finish readig this reply it will be a memory.
Sort of sucks really doesnt it, bacause of time our lifes are only memorys the present lasts 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 seconds at a time. the past goes on forever.
oh and on a differerent planet we would age the same, planets more or less travel at the same velocity through space, whitch is why years on other planets go from, 156* to 1560* days.

* not actual times i was to tired to look up how long the years are on the internet but the point is the same.

no doesn't exist according to current stupid linear time theories, you can't define now because it is too small to define, it has no dimension. time is nothing, life is everything
u wanna "time travel" supposedly u must go the speed of light, or near the speed of light because then you don't experience time as quick as ppl going slowly around you. but we're always time travelling just depends on your speed

i think you're looking at "parallel universes".
it's blatant, inexorably ominous....a looming threat, i might add.
how can one be sure that aliens cannot simply appear out of another parallel dimension and take over the earth via launching a next-to immediate stellar attack on us unsuspecting earthlings??

actually... i think it would be a good move, to begin with, if time travel isnt input into the media stooges, it is a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands...
ie: some1 warning hitler, some1 warning napoleon, some1 warning....u get the picture

You'll have to find out how time works. IMO all of time is happening right now. All pasts, futures and presents are right now. It's only our awareness of them that is changing. Time is very relative and some people's time changes in a different speed sometimes. I read another thread yesterday about an experience of a user in which time seemed to stop (can't remember which thread it was though because I didn't post in it).

The present does indeed exist, and the secret to a fulfilling life (in my opinion, in part) is to be always in the moment, to be self-aware and to know how to be at one with all things in the universe.

I haven't got there. I know some people who have.

The present is fleeting. No sooner have you lived a moment than you are in the next. It used to be called the unbearable lightness of being.

But if you have enough commodities to keep you occupied, all mod cons and a nice car or two, a house better than your neighbors' and your friends', you shouldn't need to worry about such things much.

Metaphysics, quantum physics.

ya but you guys are missing the point. if someone comes from the future then you arent living in the present as you believe. so time is already done? is always going? or what? everything that is going on right now as you read this has already happened and will always forever and it will never change. its like watching a movie over and over and over.

Right now. No wait it's, now. No, now. Now.

well then really everything we do now has literally been done by us maybe there is a way of looking into the future hmmm interesting.

It is possible to travel into the future, perhaps possible to travel into the past, but less likely.

Give me the means to step outside the continuum within this human lifespan to go and appreciate this galaxy from another relative temporal angle (within the resources being quickly consumed by stupid idiots and their cronies in the industrial military complex) and I will go there, shift the time-space continuum, and return to tell you what that could and couldn't do.

It's all conjecture. My previous answer didn't miss the point at all, hmmm?

ya it did. (hehe i hope this turns into a good arguement)my point was saying that this has all every happened. and is happening over and over again. if time travel is possible that is. (backward time travel) if time has already happened then there is no present because it is all past. your point in the other post seemed to be living life in the moment and to its fullest.

...thats what I believe also...

...I do not see time as linear...as in not infinitely long...but in effective infinitely wide (and maybe even infinitely small)...to time travel then is not a case of moving forward or backwards, but kinda 'sideways'...

I think the movie Spaceballs sums it all up:

Dark Helmet: What the Hell am I looking at?! When does this happen in the movie?!
Col. Sandurz: Now! You're looking at "now," sir. Everything that happens now is happening "now."
Dark Helmet: What happened to "then?"
Col. Sandurz: We passed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Col. Sandurz: Just now. We're at now "now."
Dark Helmet: Go back to "then."
Col. Sandurz: When?
Dark Helmet: Now.
Col. Sandurz: Now?!
Dark Helmet: Now!
Col. Sandurz: I can't.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Col. Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Col. Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will "then" be "now?"
Col. Sandurz: Soon.
Dark Helmet: How soon?

Makes me laugh every time.

On a different planet we would age the same relative to who? Ourself yes. But people on earth no if you are refering to Einstiens relativity. Gravity affects time. I would imagine that planets are all different as far as mass goes, so the gravity would be different.

December 25, if you celebrate Christmas. if not, the present is at your regularly scheduled December-ish holiday.

oh, and September 6. my birthday should be International Give MC Presents day.

...it may not be a meaningful present, but *clicks Applaud* theres a late one for your birthday...or a really early one...you decide...

I think if someone time travels to past or future that would then still be HIS/HER Present. Just like Einstien's Theory of Time being Reletive to the observer, the observer in this case being the traveler, present time would be the time he's experiencing at that moment regardless of where on the timeline the traveler was at.

Quantum Physics/Mechanics states that at the quantum level an exact measurment of energy (electron or photon for example) cannot be done because the action of making that measurement is enough to change what is being measured. It's known as the Uncertainty Principle (I believe that's what it's called.) Heisenberg said "The more precisely the POSITION is determined, the less precisely the MOMENTUM is known". Now, without getting into too much into this on principle or why it works that way, what I am really getting at is the fact that the oberserver(traveler in this case) is a key element in the measurement and cannot be separate from it. At the same time however, the observer then becomes an element that alters the outcome to the measurement he/she is taking and also makes the observation Relative to each observer individually even in ways that at some level are undetectable.

Along with what MA was talking about and the "unbearable lightness of being". It sounds very similar to what is known as "Being one with the Tao". In Taoism if you become enlightened to the point of absolute knowing and living in the Present you are then Experiencing Life in the Now and you would "Just Be". At that point you would be, in a matter of speaking, "The Observer" & "The Observed" in the Present state of "Observation". There would be no Time at this point exactly since there is no reference of what WAS or what is Next, only what IS.

yes the quote you said is talking about the fact that sub atomic particles have both mass properties and wave properties. and once you get close to finding one of those properties the further away the others value gets. i dont know if you guys get what that means i will see.

And the "Aye" have it. I believe the sideways shift is possible.
I also think that it was represented perfectly in the Jodie Foster movie "Contact".
The movie was horrible except for the part where she does travel in the alien designed craft. I would never reccommend a movie for 15 minutes of quality, but this one I will.
