Sorry. Read the post before yours.

For example the thread is "What if Alien's don't exist?"

You reply "I love my Pizza very much."

That really doesn't happen, but I can't find a better example.

If you are the author of the thread and you are looking to improve your knowledge, how would you fell?

Hope I made myself clear.

That is ok...what do you think? Do you support digressing a little...a lot as long it is funny or intellectual or what?

I support digression in moderation. It can be useful, seeing as you can pick up background that you didn't have before. Example: On the sword thread, there was a digression about sword buying which was probably good advice, saving people (namely me) money on cheap ass crap. I don't mind digression, but there's a point where it has to stop.

One for moderate digression

Zero for digression

Zero for no digression

Anymore?

I think that is a thread naturally changes it's point of discussion then thats fine. Threads can lead to very interesting debates that are off the topic somewhat. Also informs people of the information surrounding what the thread is actually about. I thinks it's good as long as nobody just changes the subject cause thats just plain annoying.

I don't like it. Sure there is a natural evolution when one topic exhausts itself and another begins but it would be better to start a new thread with a title such as "New Title was: old title" or similar.

I hate wading through pages only to find when you get to the end that the original topic has gone and they are talking about something else.

The others who don't follow the thread don't know that the new topic exists and cannot post to it.

So I like short threads with defined topics best.

Yeh I have to admit that does really really annoy me when I can't join a discussion for that reason. You can just post you opinion up there anyways and just start the original topic again.

Digressing can help or be detrimental to the topic.

You know, that's what I love about this place...it didn't take any time at all for people to catch on to this...

Yeah the weather is nice, but I would feel alot better if the toothpicks that are holding my eyes open were not giving me spliters at the same time.
