A German accused of killing and eating a man he met on a website for cannibals has expressed regret for his actions.

Armin Meiwes, who is awaiting trial, told a German newspaper he wants to deter other people from copying him.

Mr Meiwes, from Rotenburg, says his victim was a willing participant who ate part of his own body before Mr Meiwes stabbed him to death and stored his remains in a freezer.

He said he believed there were about 800 "cannibals" in Germany.

Prosecutors are seeking a conviction of murder for "sexual satisfaction", as cannibalism is not technically illegal under German law.

Oh Gawd, I know what Country i'm avoiding in future. This is totally twisted #e.

Are not many cannibals also into the darkside?

do they not believe that eating flesh gives them higher powers?

do they not think that they can gain the soul of victims they kill?

do they not often kill in the name of satan and proclaim the vicitim as tribute to him/it/whatever?

A 42-year-old German has admitted killing, dismembering and eating the flesh of another man he had recruited on the internet.

Armin Meiwes, a computer expert from Rotenburg, killed his 43-year-old victim after they met in March 2001.

Prosecutors say the killing was sexually motivated and filed murder charges, despite concluding that the killing had the victim's consent.

Meiwes is accused of stabbing software engineer Bernd Juergen Brandes, 42, in the throat.

Some legal experts say a murder conviction could be difficult to reach as the victim wanted to be eaten.

I was reminded of this incident from another thread and I felt the need to resurrect this thread because I'm curious what people's current thoughts on this are. Years later, after the initial shock, what do you think?

If two consenting adults agree to something like this, that doesn't harm anyone aside from those involved and willing, is it really something that needs to have government intervention?

Personally, I say go for it. If the guy was cognizant enough to understand what was happening, and still volunteer to be eaten...

Let the cannibal have his rump roast.
