The two prophets.....Two witnesses

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The two witnesses ......''These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy;and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues,as often as they desire''(Revelation 11:6)

Conversion of the Jews......
Enoch and Elias(Elijah) will preach in Jerusalem, the Holy city, for three and half years. As a result of their powerful witness, many Jews will turn to their true Messiah at last.'''Behold, I will send you [Jews]Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.'''(Malachi 4:5,6)

'''And it shall come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel.....will depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel,in truth'''(Isaiah 10:20)
'''Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel:'Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea,the remnant will be saved''(Romans 9:27 )

The two witnesses clearly speak with prophetic voices -- and the prophets were characterized primarily by their zeal in proclaiming the presence and expectations of God in the midst of those who often rejected such realities.
As we read in Rev 11:9,10 the world, rebelling against God, rejoiced in the death of the prophets, just as we find in the Old Testament as the prophets were persecuted because their words and actions threatened their rebellious listeners.
As we continue to read we find that the prophets are raised with the "breath of life" and taken up into heaven in view of their tormenters, causing great fear among them......

The two witnesses are spoken of in Rev 11:1-14. . -- that the two witnesses represent Elijah and Enoch -- seems to be the commonly held opinion of many Church Fathers.
The connection here is found in the Old Testament accounts of their being taken up into heaven.
In other places there is found that the two witnesses represent Elijah and Moses, perhaps on the basis of a tradition which states that Moses was also taken up into heaven or because, in the account of the Transfiguration of Our Lord..... Moses appears with Elijah.

If we take literally the time indicated by Holy Scripture regarding the rule of the beast, the activity of the Antichrist will last for about 3 1/2 years.
It will end with the Second Coming of Christ, the General Resurrection of the Dead, and the Last Judgment (Daniel 7:25; Rev. 11:2-3, 12:13, 13:5).
The Revelation of St. John mentions the appearance of two witnesses, who will proclaim the truth, perform miracles, and, upon completion of their witness, be killed by the Antichrist.
These witnesses have been foreseen by some Fathers of the Church to be the two righteous of the Old Testament period the patriarch Enoch (Gen. 5:23) and the prophet Elijah (2 Kings 2:11) because only these two men did not die but were taken alive to Heaven.
Presumably they will have to return to earth to complete their earthly mission, to suffer for the Word of God and to die as all mortals should.

The Savior warned His disciples: "Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.
For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth" (Lk. 21:34-36).

According to Saint Paul, this will be the time "when people will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will choose teachers who will tell them just what they want to hear.
They will turn their ears away from the truth and go after fables" (2 Tim. 4:3-4).
In other words, close to the end of the world people will become very cynical about Divinely revealed truths and absolute moral values. They will only listen to what sounds interesting or pleasing. This attitude will promote.....

c) The appearance of many false prophets and false messiahs. These deceiving teachers will entice people to join all kinds of sects and wild cults catering to the low moral standards of the crowd.
The Lord warns us about the danger of false teachings, saying:
"Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Do not follow them. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand" (Mt. 24:5, 24; Mrk. 13:6).
The book of Revelation describes some of the striking miracles of the last and ultimate false prophet and promoter of the Antichrist. The Apostle Paul explains to the Thessalonians that these will be not actual miracles but mere illusions and deceptions of the evil spirits (Rev. 13:13-15, 2 Thes. 2:9).

We know where this Elijah like one will come from; Isaiah 59:19 "So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west". There is also a passage that mentions he will not speak in the language of the Jews.

Rev. 16:14 tells us who were the ones that did great signs that impressed all the kings on the earth, which is different from shows great wonders.

He stood up to speak and turn away the wrath (Jer. 18:20), a soft answer turns away wrath (Pro. 15:1) and asked for justice (Jer. 21:12).

Another word to search for is linen because there is mention of one dressed in fine linen and linen could be a way to describe an Anointed One or Holy One.

Looking closer at the word antichrist:
1 John 2:18; 2:22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7, all mention the antichrist ...

"antichristos" is a combined form of "christos" - Christ - and the prefix anti. One of the renderings of anti would be "against". What I did notice is that christos is plural not singular so the term would be against Christs, plural.
In Genesis, our Creator made man in His image so it would follow that the Anointed Ones (dictionary Christ = Anointed) would be Christos.
That renders the term antichrist as against Anointed Ones.
So the antichrist would not be a single person.

Whom ever they may be, they are really going to anger the powers that be with what they will be saying and telling. Count on that.

I have been very curious since I read it, why will their bodies be left untouched in the street? Would it be because they had supporters that did not allow them to be touched, or moved or buried? I somehow doubt the idea of supporters since the scripture makes it sound as if the two are on their own doing their testimony. I also doubt the meek would protect their bodies because that would be out of character for someone meek. I wonder if it could be one of these so-called clandestine groups (interested in the right information) that could keep the coroner way?

The powers that be, wouldn't that be, government, religion and the sciences?

I really hope they dont go to New York and go see a play. On Broadway.

Guess this thread isnt going any place either.

Wonders what in it causes ones not to want to continue the topic?

Isn't it the story that Elijah will appear in someone's home during the Passover meal?

Is this the reason why Jews always leave an extra plate just incase?

Is this a prophecy or just a myth?

Because the messiah hasnt come for the ones of Jewish beliefs, they are still expecting the prophet Elijah to come first. Thus the dinner setting. On the other hand many Christians now believe that another like John that was like Elijah will come before the return of Jesus.

Edited to add; Oh, and about those two prophets / witnesses, wouldnt it really be funny if it turned out to be a man and a woman?

If the two witnesses did turn out to be a male and female, I think it would be very appropriate since the entire epic of the human race began with a male and his companion. Which caused distention with certain ones of the other races such as Satan who became jealous.

It makes logical sense to close that chapter of the human races history with the testimony or "mouthin off" as some would say it with a male and female witness, as the one messenger/angel with the vial said, "it is done". Yes, it would be well worth a snicker or two because of those starched colar religionists.

Just my personal opinion and worth my taking note for future reference.

I have a theory that the two witnesses will be Enoch and Elijah.

The bible says that every man is destined to die once, but neither Elijah or Enoch died, they were both taken off the earth to heaven, alive.

So I think that perhaps their destinies are not finished and that they will return to earth and play there parts as the two witnesses.

Because every person is destined to die, as will these two witnesses.

A lot of Bible scholars believe that the two witnesses will be Moses and Elijah. This belief comes from two different scriptures. But, since they are not named in Revelation 11, it is possible that it would be Tom and Jake (or whatever their name is) the prophet appearing.

The first possible clue is when Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him to a high mountain and Jesus was seen talking with Moses and Elijah. (Matthew 17:2-4)

The second hint of who it could be is seen when you compare the signs that these two prophets do, to the miracles of Moses and Elijah. (Revelation 11)
If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies
Compared to 2 Kings 2:10 Elijah answered the captain, "If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!" Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men.
and in 1 Kings 18:38 after Elijah prays for fire Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying
Compared to 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah ..said to Ahab, "As the LORD , the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word."

and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want
This of course looks like the plagues that Moses performed in Egypt when Pharoah would not let the Israelites go. (Starts in Exdous 4)

The prophecy of Elijah coming back before Jesus does is found in Malachi 4:5 See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. Is this a literal prophecy? Nothing leads us to believe that it is a figure of speech. Intersting note: Moses is mentioned in the verse just before this.

In the Passover celebration Jews pour an extra cup for Elijah and then a child runs and opens the door to see if Elijah is there. (Read about it here) I wonder how many times someone just happened to be at the door?

It is Moses and Elijah who are the two witnesses...they were the 2 who came to Christ on the Mt of Transfiguration to comfort Him because of the coming crucifixion.
The two lie in the streets and the whole world rejoices and sends gifts to each other, no one wants to or is able to take their bodies for burial. Without satellite TV the whole world could not see their murder. My theory is that we will become accustomed to watching this kind of violence on TV what with all the Reality TV shows on now...we'll probably be seeing things people saw in the collosseum in Rome. They may even air the execution of Sadam Hussein and his henchmen...it wouldn't be a big deal then for the whole world to see an execution, on the net we can watch an american young man being beheaded....I haven't seen it nor do I intend to...it's sick!
