4th Infantry Division

Who here thinks the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) based at Fort Hood is the single best ground military force in the world today? Sure, it'll be thrashed by the Soviet Army of the Cold War, but in this New World Order, is it the force of all forces?

I mean, the whole thing is like an advanced technology project. They are testing out the Land Warrior/OICW program, along with all sorts of other really advanced high-tech stuff. They've got prototypes of even better artillery systems and a whole lot of the state-of-the-art M1A2 Abrams. And whole lot more! It's an absolute wonderland of military technology for the army.

While I still stand by the idea that technology doesn't win wars, it can always help, and the 4th ID's got good stuff. So, is it really the best single fighting force in the world?

I would love to serve in the 4th ID!

My father served with the 4th ID in Vietnam, 2 tours, Division Artillery HQ.
Major General Glenn Walker was the commander on both tours.
He returned with the 4th ID, in the 70's, back to Fort Carson, Colorado.
The 4th ID has a very long and proud tradition and is one of the US Army's premier fighting mechanized infantry divisions currently in service.

My father still speaks highly and fondly of his time with the 4th ID........

That makes me want to serve with the best even more. I think it must've been that good for them to choose it as their experimental platform for new technologies.

Speaking of the reds, how many divisions were parked in Europe at the height of the Cold War? Wasn't it like six?

Not me, i'd rather not make a judgement like that when i dont have evidence of every combat division.Sure, they may be america's best but its rather pretentious to say they're the best in the world.

6 American or 6 Soviet? The soviets had way more than 6 divisions. If you mean American, that could be right.
