Most tactically efficient ship currently in use in the world? You didnt say only surface ships so..

IMO any of the worlds ballistic missile submarines- US, Russian, UK whatver but I am biased and prefer US

The stealth and pure destructive power they can bring is just amazing. What eles could pop up anywhere and cripple even the largest nation wiping out 100+ cities.

well, that certainly forces me to do a bit of re-thinking. The original post said "most efficient", and I've gotta admit, boomers carry more firepower per crewman than anything else in the world.

not counting nuclear weapons, I'd have to go with the US Arliegh Burke class destroyers. AEGIS weapons system, all steel construction, overpressured CBR defences, and Tomahawk missiles. All with a crew of around 300.

I have to go with the Arleigh Burke Flight IIA (AEGIS) Guided Missile Destroyer; this ship is in my opinion the most efficient because it offers capabilities in a wide variety of areas. It offers excellent AAW, ASW and ASuW making it extremely powerful and flexible, it’s a very good multi-role platform. And with a force of 62 ships this class is truly formidable.

If any ship, its gorra be a Supercarrier becouse there is accsess to everything(Land, Sea, Air, The world!). I would list the USS Tarawa since its an Assault Ship and similar to a carrier and can launch AV8 Harriers/JSFs

In British Naval History, The HMS Ark Royal R09 that carried Spey Phantoms

Maybe the new French Charles DeGaulle carrier

These new CVFs?

USS Enterprise?

I think the best ever carrier class is the Nimitz range since they are so sucessful and reliable, Ok they are not as big as the Enterprise but they have been given a good service record and will last for many years to come

How about Assault Ships?

Umm... the USS Enterprise may be the world first nuclear aircraft carrier, and she may be ~31feet longer then a Nimitz class but she is defiantly not bigger. A Nimitz class displaces several thousand more tons then the USS enterprise. And a Nimitz class has an expected service life of 50 years.

Aircraft Carriers are only as good as the planes they launch. Nobody has better planes than the US. Nuff said

Okay, Devil's Advocate here, but how many shooting wars at sea have the US flown those 'planes in and what was their combat record?

Any weapons system is only as good as the last time it was in combat.

The Apache is a prime example.

And the purpose of the thread is, from the words I read, to discuss efficiency.

my vote would be for HMS Warrior, when she was launched all other warships in the world became obselete.

yes, but her time has long since past, and she can no longer be considered the most efficient kiler on the high seas.

Come to think of it, I'm sure a lot of submariners would take exception to not being mentioned here. There are some extremely lethal subs in the world today, with small crews, nuclear power, long range strike missiles, ect. And they traditionally carry the designation of "boat". On the other hand, maybe they'd prfer to remain forgotten about so they can do thier jobs.

USS Seawolf anyone?
