University Historian Jon Wiener has been attempting to get the FBI to release the last few pages (10 pages in all) from a surveillance file on John Lennon since 1980.

The FBI continuously refused to do so because they stated that an “unnamed foreign government secretly provided the information, and releasing the documents could lead to diplomatic, political or economic retaliation against the United States.”

The foreign government was England.

Yup, I’m sure there was some serious concern that England might retaliate against the U.S. for releasing this information.

Jon Weiner has this to say:

Source
I doubt that Tony Blair's government will launch a military strike on the U.S. in retaliation for the release of these documents

If the FBI will lie like this to prevent harmless, yet interesting, information from making it to the public, makes you wonder what lengths they will go through to keep more sensitive information from the public.
