Didn't watch the video, but have seen one in real life at the Seoul Zoo in Korea.

Yeah they are definitely not a mythical creature. See one in real life, I don't care if it's in a zoo, that is one big ### Cat!

Jesus, that thing is huge!

I thought ligers were just the creation of napoleon dynamite, bred for their skills in magic!

It seems like I remember reading that when they cross the breeds like that, it "shuts off" the gene that tells it to stop growing. Kinda like when you breed a horse and a donkey you get a mule that can't reproduce.

yup

heard about this yeaaaaaaaaaaars ago

its pretty amazing what we can do with genetics these days, super mice, ligers, tions, hybrids, changing or enhancing specific things in animals.... etc

Yes the cross breeding of lion and tiger produces a very large cat indeed, they are said to be surprisingly timid too. Make a cool pet hu

yeah i knew about ligers long ago.... They are by far my favorite animal, and ever since i waws like 15 its been my dream t someday own one. I think i heard somewhere that sigfried or roy owned 2 of them (couldve been the video, i didnt watch it yet) and yes indeed they are massive. I think i heard that the genetics being crossed allow them to become as big as both parties combined. but the ide that the 'stop growing gene' makes more sense. but anyhow, yes i want to own one and when i do, im gunna cuddle for ever with it!

There are some other insteresting hybrid animals that ive heard of... theres the wolphin (whale, dolphin) the zorse (zebra, horse) and the tigon (male tiger, female lion, i dont think that gets as big but i could be wrong) anyhow, heres a cool link:

They used to have a liger and a tiglon at the Hogal Zoo in Salt Lake. I never saw them when they were alive but, they have both of them stuffed and on display by the other big cats. They're huge.

They didn't do that. They just played some barry white for a tiger and lion and let nature take its course.

Apparently there are even reports of tigers and asian lions mating successfully in the wild.

Amazing! I have seen pictures before, including that exact liger with handler - but seeing it next to a tiger, and in movement... wow!

I thought that lions lived in Africa, while tigers lived in Asia. Are there asian lions? I didn't know that~

BTW, isn't the opposite called a Tigon?
