I'm not sure on the actual ability of someone to do this and it work, but i do remember that whole bit about no used games that they almost enforced. So I will say that i'm sure if there is a way to make it impossible to play copied games (if you can even pull that off) then they would do it, but then again nothing is impossible

edit: I just found this from IGN saying that people have already ripped Bluray movies to their hard drive using linux (that's about all it says too), so it might not be too far off.

Sony was asking for this to happen. Hackers like one operating system...linux...and thats what Sony put on their PS3.

I think the PS3 has the brightest future for hacks...all thanks to linux.

the Xbox was the most hacked console in the last-gen of consoles...this time I think it will be the PS3. The wii of course wont be it. and the 360 wont because most of the features people changed/hacked on the first Xbox, have already been implemented into the 360 by MS.

As far as the PS3 and the ripping is concerned...people have been able to rip games onto the PS3 HD, but they cant play the game from the HD.....yet. Blank Blu-Ray discs are still a lot of money, so people would rather just buy a external HD, and hook it up to the PS3 and have the HD be full of games. That will be the "big" hack for the PS3...I dont expect something this big to happen until late next year.

That is the most uneducated statement ever. I mean really come on only a windows users says something like that, even the mac guys have more sense.

Consoles will be chipped no matter what OS its running. On a more important note the PS3 does not use GNU/Linux as its primary OS. you can install GNU/Linux but Sony don't use it, they cant. The fact that Sony even support GNU/Linux on there PS3 only goes to show that its a robust stable and secure OS to use.

on a side note go look up the proper definition of a hacker.

yes, all 3 consoles can (or will eventually be able to) play copied games...I'm not talking piracy, I'm talking about basically turning the PS3 into a computer...since its open source, there will be slew of programs made for it.
