I fought the temptation to place this under the 'Aliens and Ufo's' section. It really is an amazing story and shows that even accepted historical 'facts'(eg: the differential wheel was developed in the 16th Centuary) should not be taken at face value.

I read years ago about this device. The theory was that the current wisdom is the differential was developed in the 16th century and its the forerunner of modern computer and 500 years later the modern computer was developed and if this device would not have been lost to history mankind might have had the equivalent of the modern computer around 500 AD.
