This neighborhood banned smoking almost entirely, kind of ridiculous. Haven't they heard of smokers rights, oh wait, we don't have rights...
www.suntimes.com...

Either way these people go overboard, bowling alleys are made to smoke in!

Not letting people smoke is just going to make them want to smoke more.

Yeah, smoking cigs is deadly, but don't druggies have rights too? We've already been shunted to the crappy seats in restaurants. They tried this before and it was called PROHIBITION! That worked out well as I recall

It has been that way in a number of places for awhile. Its good by me.

Prohibition is different. At least when people drink they don't regurgitate the alcohol down my throat.

Restaurants i don't like not smoking in. But not smoking in a bowling alley? The heady smell of burning tobacco is great when reenacting your favorite Big Lebowski moments.

CARPET BOMB THEM!!
Just kidding. Although I cannot abide cigerette nazis. They're trampling on my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to kill myself slowly!

Anyone notice, those folks who do the most bitching about smokers and smoking are the one's who most need to go light up? Just an observation...

I take it you've never had one of those first dates with a girl who forgot to tell you that she doesn't handle her alcohol very well?

Personally I've never had the pleasure of a first hand experience either, but I have heard of a few sorry guys just getting their mac on, only to have it returned with a nice French Kiss of fruity Vomit!

Kinda kills the romantic mood after that...

Dreamstone, be thankful you still have your cappy seats to smoke in. We lost those too, years ago. The whole "No Smoking" B.S. has gotten out of control. This whole country is nothing but a bunch of Overweight, Lazy, Perscription Drug & Caffine Addicts that act like thier fragile body will collapse if some smoke comes near them. Meanwhile they suck down Pollution, Fast Food and Soda's, slowly rotting from the inside out!

Although I will say that smoking does not belong in certain closed in areas, especially where you have kids. As even I being a smoker now for years, still hate second hand smoke! But when you go so far as to not allow it in a bar where everyone smokes is just stupid! Not to mention you now have half a bar full of drunk people all standing out in front of the place, Drunk and in relative Public and smoking. Great Plan, that never causes problems?!?!?!

i'm not a smoker and can't really stand tobe in the same room with people are smoking, but..i don't think that there should be laws against smoking..it is thier choice. if in a restsurt just have a smoking section separted from the 'we are right' crowd........here iare two scenerios that i'm very surprised havn't happened yet....husband and wife and 2.5 kids live in a house. one spouse smokes, that spouse makes most the $$..the other spouse wants them to stop smoking..'for the kids sake'..smoking spouse says, no..other spouse sue them to stop smoking in the house........#20 repair guy comes to a house where some one smokes..won't enter house 'cause the smoke will cause him to drop dead....of course if these happen, they will happen on the left coast.......

I can smoke a fat hole in my lungs if I want to, and no laws are gonna stop me. I'm a smokin everywhere I can!

Another example of people restricting the civil liberties of others based on the fact that they don't like it. Just look at the "blue laws" in some places.

A corrup Government that is banning smoking?? You are already living in The American Democracy!

We still have Gas Stations with Hotdogs and junkfood though. Hell, that may mean you guys are one step ahead of of even. Maybe they're just going easy on us here in the U.S. since they are officially taking almost 1/2 our Annual Salary in Taxes. I guess they figure since everybody with a job works half the year solely for Taxes they'll let us keep our Quiki Mart HotDogs and Junkfood so we can keep working.

The one thing that really bugs me about smokers, is how they throw their butts out the car windows or in front of office buildings. So in front of an building or a stop light you have 200 plasstic, non biodegradable ciggerrette butts. I have some in front of my house.

Yeah its a free country but I get tired of looking at your trash. How bout I come to your house and let my Doberman crap on your lawn?

Not to mention smokers take off all those sick days every year costing the country Billions of dollars.

doesn't non-smokers also take out sick days every year.??
it isn't just smokers that get sick. and not everyone that gets hospitaliced because of smokingrelated diseases.
in my country the politicans try to make people believe that though.
either way, it is not just smokers that get sick every year.

I can't say that's valid either. I've never seen anything that would make me believe smokers get sick anymore than non-smokers. I've been smoking 10 years and I never get sick. Maybe once every 2 or 3 years. Then again I might just be lucky when it comes to that stuff. I live in a spot where everyone has allergies and stuff from the Pollen (Agricultural Territory) and Pollution that settles in the Valley from L.A. but I'm not allergic to anything either.

In fact the people I see getting sick are the same people who run to the doctor every time they sneeze or cough a couple times. It seems that the people who coddle thier bodies all the time just end up weakening them in the long run. The body never learns to build up defences on it's own and therefor always needs some help to defend itself. Plus this country was built in large part by tobbacco. Old timers used to smoke filterless Lucky Strikes, Eat Greasy, Fattening Food, and Drink Moonshine and Hard Whiskey and they always seem to be the ones that live to ripe old ages.

I'll agree with you on the Butt's though. I've watched boneheads open their car doors and dump entire ashtrays out on the street or sidewalk. That is a bunch of B.S.!! Especially since there is usually a trash can or something about 20 feet away too.

A democracy doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. There are laws. It means you get to elect officials who get to make the laws on your behalf. So the officials that you elected decided on your behalf that people shouldn't smoke in public buildings and that people can do without filling there bodies with preservatives.

I see this anti-smoking all over the place, and it's not just in the U.S. In relation to the news article, we have to ask who the anti-smoking "crusaders" are?
It's gotta be some powerful group of people to effect change on such a wide scale in the developing world, especially considering the fact that cigarettes are made by huge corporations! These "crusaders" actually had a chance in fighting the large smoking corporations?! Amazing! But, as we know, anti-smoking is effected by governments, which means the governments are in agreement with these "crusaders". What else could these "crusaders" accomplish with governments that effect anti-smoking laws, not only in United States, but across the world?

The people who are trying to stop smoking really are trying to do the smokers a favor. But I don't really care, so I say let smokers rot away their lungs if they want. As long as I don't have to deal with smoke in public places like restaurants, and other cramped spaces....

And since we don't have universal health care in the US, it's not like we have to pay for smokers' cancer treatments...

I do have a problem with Tobacco Corporations and their tactics though....

Ive said this before, but humans are prone to addiction. Maybe not every has this, but people get their fix from a lot of different things like excersize, eating, smoking, socializing(partying), sex, religion, even stuff like reading. Why do you think their are so many anti-depressants and similar prescription drugs on the market? As long as they are selling cigarettes there is going to be a demand. I remember watching peers in elementary school start smoking because they watched older girls doing it and asking them for a cigarette was, and still is for many people, their pick-up line. It is a deeper issue than just smoking. Some people want to push "communist", controling, conforminy rules where are no fun for most. As long as cigarettes are on the market they will be smoked publically.
No matter what man's law says, pot will always be smoked privately.
