Absolutely hilarious. Meanwhile Israel can have unlimited number of nuclear weapons. Because they are "friends" Jesus, the hypocrisy knows no bounds. And No one in America knows the consequences of bombing Iran. Israel is righteous and Iran is completely evil. Even though of 95.9999 percent of America is ignorant about the history of Iran.


The options that Josh describes it's just sad that someone thinks this way. And most people that think this way are never going to deal with any of the destruction and death that Iran is. Most of these op ed's would run to Canada if every american male was ordered to be drafted immediately. We really do need the draft to make these priviledge armchair op ed lunatics run.


When you bomb Iran you aren't going to stop their nuclear program. You are just going to give them more fervor to create more because of a foreign imposing threat that just bombed them. Congratulations in your blindsighted imperialism. Way to go . You are a winner!

Oh, btw this op ed columnist is from American Enterprise Institute. The same chickenhawks that brought you the preemptive occupation of Iraq. Isn't it time we stop listening to dunderheads? Put your own blood in the game and then maybe you will be seen as credible or significant.

Delay the Nuclear Program? These people need to be sent to Iran as ground soldiers for their twisted ideology. See how much they believe in the "Cause" after they get off the cargo plane. Shaking in their boots is a phrase that comes to mind when I visualize that scenario.

Center for Strategic and International Studies,
Center for the Study of the Presidency,
James A Baker III Institute for Public Policy,
among others !! such as RAND Corp., Nixon Center, Brookings Institute,
Middle East Institute, CFR...etc

these special thinktanks, organize a 'roadmap' of geopolitical thought,
it is our elected leaders that actually 'listen' to these (as you call them)dunderheads,
it is the elected administrations which chose to accept these master-minds' views...

and it is the elected officials who lead the nation to accept & support their policies,
which were born from the outlooks & agendas that American Enterprise Inst. or P.N.A.C.

Not that I want to see Iran bombed, but what do you PROPOSE we do to stop Iran from getting a nuclear program? They obviously won't talk and negotiate fairly... the President is insane... Islamic radicals control the nation. It's hardly a situation where the free world can sit idly and do nothing.

The elections are over and now back to the rela agendas, and mor eexpesive gas, het even more reason to take over Iran?!

How about this for an idea - we get people in power to actually SPEAK to the Iranians.
No pre-conditions, no poking and prodding by foreign powers (Israel), just talk and work things out in a civilised way. After all, the Iranian leadership was talking before GWB made his idiotic and inflammatory "Axis of Evil" speech and blew away 10 years of diplomatic progress.
As for the Iranian president's sanity, he talks a lot more sense than Blair or Bush but is always misquoted or has comments taken out of context by western translation services (MEMRI) for domestic media consumption.
Israel is the state that is calling the loudest for military strikes against Iran, so let them go do it, and suffer the consequences alone for their arrogance. Why the hell should the biggest troublemaker in the region drag the rest of us into it's dirty little agendas?

It sickens me when I see our own leadership bowing to a foreign power and promising support in their goals, no matter how murderous they are.

Not that I want to see Iran bombed, but what do you PROPOSE we do to stop Iran from getting a nuclear program?

Simple answer - short of invading and occupying the country, there is nothing we can do to prevent Iran from getting the bomb eventually if that's what they really want. The US is not omnipotent.

A bombing campaign might set back an Iranian weapons program a year or two - and redouble their determination to have one.

We weren't able to keep North Korea from building the bomb, and we won't be able to prevent Iran from building one either.

That may not be what people want to hear, but the truth seldom is.

I had a go at deconstructiong the article in this post om another thread.

It amazes me that people are even advancing these arguments, what with Iraq going so well and all....

all they want is war anyway. so lets give em what they want. they have been fighting for hundreds of years, so lets us try something new over there , maybe it will get better. bomb the hell out of em and start over. they teach their children war and to hate the americans, so lets re-educate them. and make them a peaceful nation without the muslim crap in it. peace not war. but if that is what they want , well ok. well make em a peaceful nation after we invade and bomb them, and re-educate their children to peaceful ways other than what their parents teach over there.

Short answer: because there's not a whole lot, realistically, we can do about it.

Well the easy answer is "stop making enemies of so many people/countries for such absolutely nonconstructive ( for 99.9% of Americans anyways) reasons?

You problem forgot all about America's support of that brutal psychopath the Shah who replaced someone who were quite sane and wanted to work with the west while improving the lot of Iranians? America ( just like most empires before her) creates her own enemies as that is apparently what empires requires to thrive on.

Am I understanding this correctly: Bomb them, then preach peace?

why not admit our wrongs, leave them alone, and talk peace amongst ourselves. there's no way we can tell others to be peaceful and compassionate and to embrace democracy if we, ourselves, do not practice it....

You know, I've had a change of heart on the issue. I've come to the conclusion that given Iran's past history and their current cultural, social and political trend true democracy in Iran is inevitable. I believe future generations of that country will want better relations with the West and a more open and free society. If we attack Iran now we run the risk of making the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan worse, turning the region even more anti-American, and maybe even getting involved in another prolonged military campaign. But most of all, even if we temporarily destroy their nuclear program we will empower their current leaders and only reinforce their views toward the US. We will turn moderates and those who want change in Iran against us. If Iraq has tough us anything is that we will not be seen as liberators, even if we do destroy their leadership. If democracy does not come from within the native populace and culture it will be rejected and definitely not supported.

As such I think we ought to only deal with Iran through diplomatic, political and economic means. By funding and supporting those who seek reform and change in Iran. By continuing to try and gain international support from other nations to isolate and apply economic and political pressure towards Iran so that we can perhaps slow down their nuclear development. If they do develop a bomb, well it will only strengthen our position in the international and geopolitical arena, and the military balance will not change because of a limited regional nuclear capability. The US military would still be able to defeat Iranian force if need be. In all of this the military option is still there. If Iran uses nuclear weapons or transfers them to foreign hostile organization then we would be well within our right to use the military option and I would fully support it, but only then. However that is unlikely, for all it's talk Iran very much want's to preserve itself. As such, it is highly unlikely it will use any nuclear weapons it may develop, like North Korea, because they know what would follow. This may be a slow and more uncertain direction but it's our best and frankly only realistic option.
