why people can't just wait for these things I'll never know:

PS3 line hit by drive-by BB Gun shooting

www.gamespot.com...

--------------------

A fight broke out at the Super Wal-Mart broke out in Palmdale in California when store employees decide to move the line from inside to outside.

According to a television station, a group of PS3 line-waiters got angry when they were told they could no longer wait inside a Wal-Mart for the PS3 and would have to go outside instead. The group ran through the store knocking everyone and everything in their path over.

------------------

At a Wal-Mart in West Bend Wisconsin, a scuffle broke out among the approximately 60 people waiting in line for the store's allocation of 10 PlayStation 3 units. When the crowd found out the systems would be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, pushing and shoving broke out, sending one system hopeful face-first into a telephone pole. Police say an ambulance had to be called to the scene.

Hahaha, remember the Xbox360? Video of people being trampled half to death!

I saw some PS3 people in tents outside a Best Buy. I had to laugh at them. Cold, raining, and here they are huddled outside for a game system.

Well, better then the people who spend 3,000 dollars over ebay for a 500-600 dollar system. Patience, something I learned in the Marines, is definately a virtue. Rushing gets you killed, or paralyzed.

Yeah. Sony needs to grow up and learn proper business. If you create a hype about a system make sure you have enough stock. I mean 400,000 units for North America? LOL. .What a joke! If anything it could make people go the other way (eg: Wii., XBOX 360) and make the customer more upset. Then those people that are willing to pay over $2000 for a $700 system are morons. Give it 1-2 months and the PS3 will be back in stores and in less than a year stores will not even even be able to sell them anymore.. you wait and see! They will have too many just like the XBOX 360 is now and just like the PS2 is now.

This is nuts, fighting for a console?
Totally insane. Specially because it's something that you can buy later.
I would understand if their lives or their jobs were depending on it, but in these cases I don't think so.

Just to think that I'm still dreaming with my PS2 :shk:

It's supply and demand. Period. What "gets" me is when watching the news broadcasts, I've noticed that the line of people that were "waiting for as long as a week in line....outside,etc." were composed of teens (which is no suprise) but seriously, don't these kids have jobs ? Where the heck are they getting $650 to buy the PS3 ? I shudder to think of the few in that line who robbed or beat some poor lad just so they could be the first to get heir idle hands on a system. Ridiculous. You'd think they were rationing the last bit of water or something.

How many did Japan get? Something like 120,000? For the Wii, at most places I called, the numbers of Wii's that they are getting will outstrip the PS3 by an average ratio of 4 to 1. There are going to be no Supply shortages for the Wii. I wonder how many people are just gonna give up in the PS3 and go for a Wii due to Sony ineptitude?

PS3= high tech cabbage patch doll

They will be sorry for buying one of the first production runs of a high tech product.
Most will be reselling, to profit from parents who like to spoil their kids.

Did you see the story on John Edwards, vice presidential candidate.
He was trying to snag one through backchannels at Walmart.

PS3

I encourage anyone reading this post to NOT purchase a PS3 at a price higher than
suggested retail.

Actually, I doubt it's very many. I'd wager that most of them are, as spacedoubt alluded to, paying for it with their parent's "here-now-i-can-feel-better-about-not-spending-time-with-you" money. I'm sure a good number of the kids do have jobs, and are paying with their own cash, but I'd be damned surprised if a queue-side survey didn't find most of those kids were the same ones who get brand new euro cars to crash while they're talking on a $300 cell phone and listening to a $500 iPod plugged into a $2K sound system--none of which they earned, unless just being born to the right last name counts as work.

Sorry, had to vent. (And yes, I will admit that it's in no small amount jealousy--I wish my mom or dad could hand me $600 to waste on a game system without worrying about spending it on stupid things like rent or groceries. Okay, I think I'm done venting for now...)

...you couldn't be any closer to the truth. many of those who are buying the console from retailers don't even plan to keep them:

13k+ ps3s being sold on ebay, with the average price of about $2600.

QFT. and for those people who are dumb enough to purchase a ps3 from those scalpers on ebay, i say it serves them right. patience really is a virtue, and if they could manage to just wait a few weeks/a month or two, this really would be a non issue.

this debacle of a launch really says a lot about how those shanks at sony see their customers.

Why I always wait to buy something. I never buy anything new since that is a waste of money. Right now you can get a Gamecube for 50, some places 30 dollars! With games at 5 dolalrs! I got my PS2 at 100 and spent about the same on six games. Now yes I've spent more on games now, but when I firat got the system and first games they were already more then a year old. Right now looking for a regular xbox, figure if I get one for 70-90 its worth not spending 300-400 on a 360.

In other news, people will not go "Oh I can't get a PS3, the most powerful system, with the most amount of games and best games, better waste money on a Wii, the weakest system and the fewest games."(Heard they aren't backwards compatible unless you buy something extra) No, they will go "Mommy, Daddy, knock some of the mold off of your old money you inherited from your daddy and buy me a PS3 over Ebay!"

Wrong and Wrong. Look at the release dates of the Wii versus PS3. Another thing is that it IS backwards compatible with GC games as well as having a Virtual Console suite of software that will allow you to play games from systems ranging from NES, all the way to the N64 and Sega Genesis and Turbogrfx 16. It is also compatible with the older GC controllers.

Remember the 3DO? There are sooo many similarities with the PS3 and that debacle. Great concept, great hardware, great launch titles, poor price point. PS3 doesn't even have a Great concept to fall back on, they have over achieved on the hardware specs and the launch titles leave much to be desired. Of course if you're an A type personality that thinks quantity trumps quality then you're gonna be in for quite a shocker when Sony announces its getting out of the Video Game business this time next year. 360 is gonna beat the snot out of Sony and the Wii will be riding comfortably towards the future.

Hear all the Rave reviews coming out of the MSM for the Wii? Hear the same about the PS3? I haven't. All I've heard is either Riots, Shortages, and Technical problems.

News in my city! Last night, a guy made over 20,000 dollars, how? He robbed the losers waiting in line! He went from tent to tent, woke them up, stuck a gun in their face, and robbed them. He went to the next store and did the same thing to 31 people! Man, I wish I had thought of that.

You know.. it no wonder Sony is losing all their money. They hype up a new system so much, then they don't have the stock to keep up with demand. Then the people that may have actually bought a system just say forget it and move on. There's lost profit! I think the same thing happened with PS1 and PS2..... more money to be lost on PS4 too.. that is.. if Sony makes it that far!

Or if were all alive ;-)

Imo Waste of money... i could think of more things more productive then sitting in front of a TV mashing buttons to achieve nothing.

A little off topic but this could explain things. The gap between the rich and the poor is getting wider & wider,so the rich have the power to buy LOTS of things while the poor doesn't have that power.
So the poor became jealous and decided to do whatever it takes to get that power or something close to that.
The people see PS3 as a really POWERFUL system so they will do whatever it takes to get it or the other kind of power(money).
So those people, maybe even the rich as well, can start to become greedy(REALLY GREEDY) of power.
Perhaps instead of waiting to get the PS3 later on,they became blinded by the awesome power of the PS3!!!Maybe they became so blinded that they forgot to think that they could've bought it later on.They just wanted some power AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
I think its time for the rich to share some of the dough!!I kinda blame the government for making the rich richer and the poor poorer!

BTW has anyone noticed that greed is rising?

Just wait until you play one on a high def TV. A friend of mine was trying to argue that the 360 had better graphics (which he owns), so he would get a Wii instead. We went to Walmart last night and played Motorstorm on a tiny high def tv. He didn't like the game very much at all, but it made him want a PS3. So if a guy who didn't want a PS3 plays a game he doesn't even like and it makes him want the PS3, you know it's awesome. Once people start going over to their friends house who have a PS3, they are going to want one too. I also think that the PS3 will appeal to the PC crowd, well at least the ones who don't already have $600 graphics cards. You can use a usb hard drive to get more space, so you don't have to buy an overpriced one sold by the same company who makes the system.

I think it is pretty ridiculous how people fight over these things. I mean, seriously, they are going to make more. These people act like there are only 10 in the whole entire world.

Hehe..

Out side my local Best Buy there is a sea of tents and make shift ones.. that look like they might be made of the persons actual clothes.. I imagine nerd camp stinks so il stay away but the Best Buy only has 20 PS3's and there is well over 100+ I would say sitting in the parking lot.

Local Weather for the past 2 days has been a consistant 36-40F with rain sometimes heavy with no sun. Today Rain with a chance of snow.

I want a PS3, and will get one, in about 2-3 years. Not going to waste a house payment on a game system. Wait a few years for price to drop. How I got my PS2 for 110, my xbox for 120, and a GC for 40. Not that I play the GC much but when you see one for 40 dollars you gotta get it. EVen if the graphics are craptacular, the games suck and are mostly repeats, 40 dollars is to good a deal to pass up.
