I first read this story on about.com almost 10 years and also tried to research it with little luck. Then came across this 2006 podcast 2 days ago
and decided to look some more, with some results this time.
according to this link:
www.prairieghosts.com... , Gadianton Cayon really is supposed to be near Modena, Utah and a haunt of the
supernatural Gadianton robbers of mormon folklore. Common knowledge - for mormons, I guess.
As for the State Trooper 'Vic Lundquist' , I found 'him' too...sort of. A 'Victor Lundquist' turned up on an intelius search and a 'Vickie
Lundquist' turned up in ussearch and both live/or lived in St George, UT. That's about about 60 miles south of Modena. 'Vickie' is listed as 60
years old as of 2010 and was 21-22 at the time of the story. So she would just barely fit the requirements for a Utah state trooper.

One can easily pay for the public records and contact the individual but,
overall I too think the story is a hoax, and probably fairly recent as well. The big mystery here is why the author never bothered to use a map.
