Nvidia have just released the unfathomable 8800 GPU to coincide with directX10.

Check out the specs of this peach:

"Specifications/Performance
GeForce 8800 GTX GeForce 8800 GTS
Stream Processors 128 96
Core Clock (MHz) 575 500
Shader Clock (MHz) 1350 1200
Memory Clock (MHz) 900 800
Memory Amount 768MB 640MB
Memory Interface 384-bit 320-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 86.4 64
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 36.8 24"

Jeez,768mb of memory...at 86.4 GB per second.
and this:

"Crank up 16x full-screen anti-aliasing without missing a beat."

I can only imagine.

Not sure how much it will sell for,but its sure to be out of my league for a good while.
:bnghd:
Should wup the pants off the PS3.

Actually performance tests have said that the 8800 falls far short of the X2 7950 in several areas. Wait until the 8850 and 8900s. BTW My 7900 is DX 10 ready.

The thread title is also misleading cuz I though this thread was about the release of DX10, which it isn't.
I was hoping beyond hope that MS would finally release it for XP. But alas, it still looks to be Vista only...

Interesting about the X2 7950 sardion.
I`ll bear that in mind-should be cheaper too.

I know,
I realized i had given the thread a bad title afterwards.Oops.

Damn shame about DX10 being vista only...typical MS techniques yet again.

You need Vista for Direct X 10. Currently the G80 is providing very fast DX9 on XP.

The 8800GTX is almost double the performance of the 7950gx2, and the performance of the 8800GTS is around the same as the 7950gx2.

Also, your 7900 is only Direct X 9 compatible, and it won't work with DX10 AT ALL. It can run Vista, because Vista uses Direct X 9.0L, with Direct X 10 for applications.

It's not MS techniques. DX10 requires Vista because it will not work with the Windows XP kernal.

1. That's not what it says on the Box, it says DX 10 ready, Optimized for Windows Vista. I got it right in front of me.

2. Are you an XP developer? Not that it doesn't matter cuz I wouldn't believe that tripe even if it came from a drunken Balmer.

3. Performance tests with games and not benchmarks is what I believe in. Lot's of people have been bashing the 8800s for having extremely buggy drivers, and that in turn, translated into poor FPS ratings for some games which should have done much better).

Send me a picture of the box then.

Also, whoever expects them to have bug free drivers is an idiot. Geforce 8 is a whole new archetecture never implemented before.

Oh, I got a new PC, specs:
ASUS 680i
Intel Core 2 duo E6700 overclocked to 4.35ghz on Air
2x1gb Dominator DDR2-1111
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX
Dual 150gb Raptor's in RAID 0
Soundblaster X-fi Elete pro
Big A$$ 1kilowatt PC power and cooling power supply.

Windows Vista runs in Direct X 9.0L, meaning you need any old Direct X 9 card with shader model 2 or higher, to run Vista.

HOWEVER, if you can run Vista, that DOSN'T always mean you can run Direct X 10. Direct X 10 requires geometry shaders, shader model 4, and support for Windows Graphics foundation 2.0. The Geforce 7 has NONE of them features and supports WGF 1.0 and as such, CANNOT run Direct X 10.

So yes, your card is optimized for Vista (*cauph*, Direct X 9 *cauph*) only you will NOT be abled to run Direct X 10 applications on it. As Vista is such a memory hog, don't try and game on Vista with a DX9 card. It will be slower than XP.

Microsoft has said that XP is DirectX 9 only....these cards will make 9 on Vista look as good and run as fast and 9 possible can...but DirectX 10 is really gonna make Vista shine.

I cant wait for Vista...I'll probably buy it the first week its out....unless i get real impatient...in which I'll get the torrent.
